Mark North
As Business Development Partner, I work closely with our clients and stakeholders to completely understand their strategic goals and what they determine success to be. I can then support them to achieve this.
I have many years’ experience in property related fields starting my working life as an estate agent in 1991 before moving into the lettings environment. For 14 years I enjoyed taking care of my clients’ properties, whilst matching buyers to their dream homes or helping tenants navigate the sometimes frustrating and complicated rental sector. In 2005 my working life took a different turn when I joined Brethertons solicitors (for the first time) although I remained firmly in the property arena.
I had previously sold or rented leasehold properties but until this point I hadn’t appreciated the complexities surrounding it and the overwhelming amount of legislation governing it. Brethertons properly introduced me to leasehold. For a number of years I focussed on debt management, recovering arrears on behalf of our clients. I immersed myself in the law. I became fascinated with the different pieces of legislation specifically relating to landlord and tenant and those sections of the law that cross over and impact leasehold. It became apparent however that in order to provide exceptional service to our clients it was vital to understand their needs and requirements completely. Where were they taking their businesses, what hurdles did they foresee and where did they need support? At this point I moved into a business development role, supporting our clients towards their strategic goals by utilising the advice and guidance of our residential leasehold specialists and their wealth of knowledge and experience.
Towards the end of 2018 I left Brethertons for a brief period. My journey took me to one of the biggest block and estate managing agents in the country. Amongst a number of responsibilities I was tasked with providing training across the group. I pulled on my knowledge of the law, of property in general and my business acumen to deliver training with a purpose.
In November 2023 I returned “home” to Brethertons brining with me a newly found understanding of life within a managing agent and the difficulties that can be encountered at the coal face of the leasehold sector. There are very few people in the sector today who can claim to have such a diverse experience in property related arenas and the law. Couple this with the expertise, knowledge and experience of the property teams at Brethertons and there is practically nothing we can’t support our clients with.
