Guilt, anger, grief… Whether you’ve been married for two years or twenty, the emotions experienced after the break up of a relationship can be intense. We all know it’s good to talk, but to whom? Your family are caught in the middle, you don’t want to discuss your private life with your friends, and somehow everything you say gets back to your ex…
New Beginnings: The Next Chapter offers a solution. Just one of the counselling services we offer free-of-charge to our clients, New Beginnings is a group course led by an experienced relationship therapist. You’ll join a group of 6-8 women, all at different stages of their divorce journey, in a supportive, confidential environment that will put you firmly on the road to recovery.
Divorce can feel isolating, and the shift in status is often unsettling: it’s not unusual to feel a loss of identity when you find yourself on your own again. New Beginnings will help you work out who you are, what you want, and where you’re going. The group leader will suggest ways of dealing with the effects of separation and divorce, and of course there will be plenty of support from your peers. Gradually you’ll begin to understand what you’re feeling, and why; and you’ll start to work through your emotions. By the end of the course you’ll feel empowered, ready to start this new chapter of your life.
It might seem strange to mention ‘fun’ and ‘divorce’ on the same page, but learning how to enjoy life on your own is an essential part of the healing process. The women in your New Beginnings group might start off as strangers, but you’ll find they end up as friends: socialising during the course is positively encouraged, and the final group task is to organise a night out together. Many of our ‘New Beginners’ stay in touch after the course has ended, sharing the ups and downs of their new lives. It’s comforting to know there are people you can call who understand exactly how you feel, and inspiring to see your friends becoming happier and more confident.
Whatever the cause of divorce or separation, the end of a relationship can be a traumatic process. To help you through it you need time, support, and information: all of which is provided by New Beginnings: The Next Chapter. You might think it unusual for a law firm to offer free counselling, but we feel passionately about supporting our clients through difficult times. For us it’s about more than dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s: it’s about being there for you every step of the way. New Beginnings is just the start of the journey – who knows where it will take you?
