We are delighted to announce that we've chosen SpecialEffect as our Charity of the Year for 2015/16. Every year Brethertons supports and raises money for a nominated cause chosen by our staff.
SpecialEffect, a charity based near Witney in Oxfordshire, ‘puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games’. It’s a charity like few others: not only does the team work with people of all ages to inspire and motivate them in a unique way, by providing a friendly and inclusive environment in which people can enjoy themselves doing what they love, but it also recognises that support from organisations such as Brethertons is maximised when the Charity engages with donors in dynamic and innovative ways.
SpecialEffect Director and CEO, Dr Mick Donegan, explains how the Charity works with corporate fundraisers: “We offer a huge range of activities for companies and their staff. Not just the usual marathons, walks and 10Ks, but competitive multi-company team-building and networking events such as glass walks and sports engagements which have the added bonus of raising money for the Charity. We’re thrilled Brethertons has chosen SpecialEffect to be the focus of their fundraising activities and we look forward to working closely with the team in the months to come.”
Brethertons’ Partner and Head of Client Services, Alison McCormack, is enthusiastic about the firm’s community relations activities: “At Brethertons, we know the key to success is our staff and the community they live in. We’re really proud to take an active part in supporting local charities and we think it’s important to keep in touch with our roots. We also feel passionate about helping others less fortunate and actively support local causes.”
During the selection process, 140 staff voted for their choice of charity from a list which had been drawn up by the firm’s dedicated Charity Committee following criteria designed to ensure consistency and transparency in the firm’s community relations activities. Brethertons has a strong association with the Charity, having previously supported SpecialEffect during last year’s Twin Town Challenge. We sponsored the send off breakfast for the fundraising event – a points based challenge travelling from Witney to its twin town of Le Touquet in Northern France for cars bought for just £500 – by handing out bacon sandwiches and goodie bags to participants as they set off from Cornbury. We have just registered for the next Twin town Challenge in May 2016.
We kicked off our support for the Charity in 2015 with the launch of our new website. A social media campaign featuring an online quiz encouraged the public to visit the new website in the hope of finding answers to questions about the firm. Brethertons has donated £500 - £1 for the first 500 entries to the competition. .
Brethertons’ Partner and Head of Human Resources, Deborah Atkins, gives an insight into how the firm will be raising funds throughout the year: “We really go to town helping to raise money for our Charity of the Year and are planning to organise events like cake sales, coffee mornings, fun runs and a summer ball. We also have a staff tuck shop which raises money all year long.”
