We are delighted to be highlighting our expert lawyers in a new feature 'In The Spotlight' where you can get to know our individuals and the important work they carry out each day. This week we are excited to be highlighting Dawn Millar - Partner in our award-winning Divorce & Family team. |
Since starting to specialise in family law cases, Dawn has taken a particular interest in the pension assets divorcing couples frequently have, and how these can be shared fairly, in the event of divorce. She is extremely knowledgeable in this area of financial cases in divorce, and regularly ensures that she keeps her knowledge up to date, by undertaking training courses, throughout the year. She acts for clients who have a variety of different types of pensions, including final salary, armed forces, public sector (e.g. NHS, police and teachers), personal and SIPP pensions. She also advises clients, on a regular basis, of the implications of the lifetime allowance, and how pensions with values in excess of the lifetime allowance, can be shared most efficiently between divorcing couples, to minimise tax exposure. Dawn Millar joined us in 2019, bringing with her many years of experience in family law. She qualified as a lawyer, specialising in family law matters, in 1996. She then qualified as an accredited specialist, with 'Resolution – First for Family Law', in complex financial cases and pensions. Dawn is one of only a few lawyers who have been accredited with the pensions specialism, in England. She is also qualified as a collaborative law practitioner.
Dawn works with actuaries, accountants and independent financial advisers, to ensure that, from the beginning of her client’s case, they have focused advice on all financial issues they face, with the support, where needed, of other professionals. This means that her clients will have help with finding out what the pensions in their case are truly worth, how most effectively they can be shared, and ensure that any pension share which is received is invested wisely, or how to best manage the pensions which remain, after a pension share has taken place.
If you would like to know more about financial settlements in divorce, especially where pensions are likely to be shared, please contact Dawn directly by email at dawnmillar@brethertons.co.uk, or by phone on 07387 647798. You can also read our testimonials on our Trust Pilot page here;
"I was recommended to use this firm via Wikivorce. I was a bit sceptical at first but after speaking with a Lady called Dawn I was put at ease and I instructed her to represent me. She was fantastic throughout and very professional and supportive. I can't thank her enough for all the support and guidance she gave me. She was wonderful and got me through an extremely stressful time. Thank you Dawn."
